Description

The Norfolk is a 395mm traditional outdoor pendant lantern with hand-leaded glass panels set in a black powder-coated aluminium frame. Each glass panel is assembled from five individual panes held within lead came, replicating the construction method used in Victorian and Edwardian street lanterns. The lantern hangs from a black chain on a matching canopy and accepts a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately).

Rated IP44 for outdoor use, the Norfolk suits covered entryways, front porches, pergolas and garden seating areas where the canopy and chain can be protected from direct rainfall. The minimum drop of 515mm positions the lantern approximately 400-500mm below the ceiling rose, which works in standard 2.3-2.5m height porch ceilings. The maximum chain length of 600mm allows the lantern to drop further in taller covered outdoor spaces or barn-style entrance areas.

The hand-leaded glass softens the light output from the bulb, creating diffused ambient illumination rather than harsh direct light. The individual glass panes show slight tonal variation and surface texture, which is characteristic of hand-assembled leaded glass rather than a defect. The black powder coat on the aluminium frame resists rust and weathering in UK coastal and urban environments, though the fitting is designed for covered installation rather than fully exposed positions.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashed from any direction. It is suitable for covered outdoor locations such as porches, pergolas and canopies, but should not be installed in fully exposed positions where rain falls directly onto the fitting.

What bulb does it take?

The Norfolk accepts a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to suit the traditional lantern aesthetic.

Can the chain length be adjusted?

Yes. The chain can be shortened during installation by removing links to achieve the desired drop between 515mm and 600mm from the ceiling rose to the top of the lantern body.

How is the leaded glass cleaned?

Wipe gently with a soft cloth dampened with water. The lead came is soft metal and can be scratched by abrasive materials, so avoid household sprays, scouring pads or chemical cleaners on the glass panels.
