Description

The Oslo is an outdoor chain pendant with a galvanised steel frame finished in silver powder coat, built around a central E27 bulb holder protected by layered horizontal metal shades and a clear polycarbonate outer diffuser. The five-tier shade arrangement directs light downwards while shielding the bulb from direct view, reducing glare across patios, covered entrances and outdoor dining areas.

Rated IP55 for dust and water resistance, the Oslo is suitable for coastal and exposed installations where fixtures face wind-driven rain and salt air. The galvanised construction resists corrosion, and the powder coat provides additional protection against UV degradation. The 1020mm maximum chain drop allows the pendant to be set above a porch table or a covered walkway, while the 435mm minimum drop suits lower-ceiling installations such as pergola beams or covered balconies. The chain conceals the cable run and locks at the chosen height during installation.

The layered shade design is based on mid-century Scandinavian outdoor lighting, where horizontal rings create visual interest while controlling light spread. At 270mm diameter, the Oslo provides adequate task light without dominating smaller outdoor zones. The clear polycarbonate lens is impact-resistant and easier to clean than glass, though it may develop surface clouding after several years of UV exposure in high-sun locations. Can the Oslo be used in coastal locations?

Yes. The galvanised steel frame with silver powder coat is designed to resist salt air and corrosion in coastal environments. The IP55 rating provides protection against wind-driven rain and sea spray.

What bulb is recommended?

The Oslo takes any standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users fit a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for outdoor ambient lighting. Filament-style LED bulbs work well visually with the layered shade design. Bulbs are sold separately.

Is the polycarbonate lens UV-resistant?

Polycarbonate has inherent UV resistance but may develop surface clouding after prolonged exposure in high-sun locations. This does not affect structural integrity or water resistance, though it may reduce light transmission slightly over several years.

Can the chain length be shortened after installation?

The chain is set during installation and locks at the chosen height. To adjust the drop later requires removing the ceiling rose cover and re-threading the chain, which is a minor task but does require switching off the circuit and accessing the ceiling fixing point.
