Description

The Salamanca is a 17.7cm outdoor pendant light cast from aluminium alloy and finished in a brown powder-coat, with translucent glass panels and an E27 bulb fitting. The fixture carries an IP44 rating, protecting against splashing water from any direction, which makes it suitable for covered porches, pergolas, and open-sided garden rooms rather than fully exposed positions.

Designed for exterior entrances, front porches, and covered outdoor dining areas, the Salamanca hangs from an adjustable chain that can be set between 36cm and 130.7cm from the ceiling during installation. The 27.5cm body height and 17.7cm diameter give the lantern enough presence for a 2.5-3m porch width without overwhelming narrower doorways. The chain conceals the cable run and the canopy fits standard UK exterior junction boxes.

The brown powder-coat finish on the aluminium resists corrosion from moisture and temperature changes better than untreated metals, while the horizontal band detail around the upper and lower sections of the lantern references mid-20th century outdoor fixture design. The translucent glass diffuses direct bulb glare while allowing enough light through to illuminate entrance steps and pathways. The fitting accepts any standard E27 bulb up to 60W, giving flexibility to choose LED, halogen or filament depending on the colour temperature and brightness required.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 protects against splashing water from any direction but not direct jets or submersion. The Salamanca is suitable for covered porches, pergolas, and open-sided garden rooms where the fitting is sheltered from direct rain. It is not rated for fully exposed positions without overhead cover.

What bulb does it take?

The Salamanca takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for porch and entrance lighting.

Can the drop height be adjusted?

Yes. The chain can be set between 36cm and 130.7cm during installation, allowing the pendant to be positioned at the appropriate height for the porch or entrance area. The chain is adjustable by removing or adding links.

How is the aluminium finish maintained?

Wipe the brown powder-coated aluminium with a damp cloth to remove dust and surface dirt. Avoid abrasive cleaners or wire brushes, which can damage the powder-coat finish and expose the aluminium underneath to corrosion.
