Description
The Chelsea is a handcrafted copper outdoor pendant light with a six-sided lantern frame, clear polycarbonate lens panels, and a turned copper finial on the crown. The lantern houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) and hangs from a copper chain with a 755-1755mm adjustable drop. The IP44 rating protects the fitting against dust and water spray, making it suitable for covered porches, verandas, conservatory exteriors, and other outdoor areas with overhead shelter.
Designed for traditional and period-style architecture, the Chelsea pairs a classic coach-lantern silhouette with solid copper construction that develops a natural greenish patina over time. This tarnishing process is a feature of untreated copper — the metal oxidises gradually when exposed to air and moisture, shifting from polished rose-gold tones through bronze to verdigris green. The speed of patina development varies depending on local climate and exposure. The polycarbonate lens is more impact-resistant than glass and maintains clarity in outdoor conditions.
The pendant measures 250mm across the widest point of the lantern body and 650mm from the top of the crown finial to the base. The chain length is adjustable on installation, allowing the lantern to hang between 755mm and 1755mm below the ceiling rose depending on porch height and visual preference. The Chelsea is part of a coordinated Norlys collection that includes matching wall lanterns, post-top fittings and pedestal lights, allowing consistent copper detailing across multiple outdoor lighting points. Norlys backs the fitting with a 10-year guarantee.

Frequently Asked
Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor locations?
The IP44 rating provides protection against dust and water spray from any direction, but the fitting is designed for covered outdoor areas such as porches, verandas and canopies. Full exposure to driving rain may exceed the IP44 specification and void the guarantee.
Will the copper finish change over time?
Yes. Untreated copper oxidises naturally when exposed to air and moisture, developing a patina that shifts from polished copper tones through bronze to verdigris green. This process is a characteristic of solid copper and typically takes several months to years depending on local climate. The patina can be removed with copper polish if you prefer to maintain the original finish.
What bulb should I use?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to complement the copper finish and provide adequate porch lighting. Bulbs are sold separately.
Are there matching fittings in the Chelsea range?
Yes. The Chelsea collection from Norlys includes wall-mounted lanterns, post-top fittings and pedestal lights in the same handcrafted copper finish, allowing you to create coordinated outdoor lighting across multiple points.
