Description
The Chapel is a 205mm diameter outdoor chain pendant in a traditional coach lantern style, built from die-cast aluminium finished in matt black. Four clear glass panels enclose a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately), with a pagoda-style roof cap and matching black chain suspension. The IP44 rating protects against dust ingress and water spray from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, entrance canopies and veranda ceilings where the fitting remains sheltered from direct rainfall.
Designed for residential front door canopies, rear patio overhangs and garden building entrances, the Chapel pendant sits 570mm below the ceiling mounting point at minimum drop, extending to a maximum 1040mm drop depending on how much of the 490mm adjustable chain is used during installation. The clear glass maximises light output through all four sides, casting broad horizontal illumination across a porch floor or pathway immediately below, while the black aluminium frame defines the lantern shape when lit. The 60W maximum rating accommodates traditional filament bulbs and modern LED equivalents in warm or cool white.
The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion better than mild steel alternatives in coastal or damp environments, and the powder-coated black finish withstands UV exposure without fading to grey. The glass panels are secured within the metal frame and can be accessed for bulb replacement by unscrewing the lower section of the lantern body. At 420mm height (lantern body only, excluding chain), the Chapel presents as a medium-sized coach lantern rather than an oversized statement piece, scaling appropriately for standard UK residential porch dimensions of 1.2-1.8m width.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against dust ingress and water spray from any direction. This makes the Chapel suitable for covered outdoor locations such as porches, entrance canopies and verandas where the fitting is sheltered from direct rainfall. It is not rated for fully exposed positions with no overhead cover.
What bulb does it take?
The Chapel takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for traditional porch lighting, or a filament-style LED for visible aesthetics through the clear glass.
How is the drop height adjusted?
The pendant includes 490mm of adjustable chain. At installation, the electrician determines how much chain to use between the ceiling rose and the lantern body, setting the final drop anywhere between the 570mm minimum and 1040mm maximum. The unused chain is typically coiled inside the ceiling canopy.
How is the bulb replaced?
The lower section of the lantern body unscrews to allow access to the E27 bulb fitting inside the glass enclosure. This should be done with the mains supply switched off and the lantern cool to the touch.
