Description

The Mansion is a 220mm-wide outdoor chain pendant with three E14 candle bulb holders set inside a lantern frame of aged brass and clear glass panels. The solid brass construction is finished with a factory-applied aged patina and protective lacquer coating, giving the lantern a pre-weathered appearance designed to mimic Georgian-era street lanterns while resisting further corrosion outdoors.

Designed for covered porches, entrance canopies, garden pergolas and outdoor hallways, the Mansion carries an IP44 rating — protected against splashing water from any direction but not suitable for direct rainfall exposure without overhead cover. The 450mm chain allows the pendant to drop between 570mm and 940mm from the ceiling mounting point, adjusted on installation to suit porch ceiling height. The three candle-style E14 bulbs (sold separately) sit visible behind the clear glass, casting light through all four faces of the lantern.

The aged brass finish replicates the natural patina that develops on outdoor brass over years of exposure, giving the lantern a heritage appearance from the moment it is fitted. The lacquer coating slows further tarnishing but does not prevent it entirely — over time the finish will continue to develop subtle colour shifts and small surface marks that add to the period character. The pierced detailing along the top tier of the lantern mimics ventilation holes on original gas lanterns, retained here as a decorative feature.

Each glass panel is held in a brass frame with bevelled edges, and the tapered lantern body narrows from the shoulder to the base, following the proportions of late 18th-century coach lanterns. The total weight of the brass frame and glass makes this a substantial fitting that benefits from ceiling joists or a well-anchored ceiling rose for safe installation.

Can the Mansion be used in fully exposed outdoor positions?

The IP44 rating protects against splashing water but not sustained direct rainfall. The pendant is designed for covered positions — porches, canopies, pergolas and recessed entrance areas where it has overhead shelter from heavy rain.

What bulbs does it take?

Three E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs, each up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K to replicate traditional flame light.

Will the aged brass finish continue to darken?

Yes. The factory-applied aged patina and lacquer coating slows the tarnishing process but does not stop it entirely. Over months and years the brass will develop further colour shifts, small marks and deeper patina — this is expected and adds to the heritage character of the lantern.

How is the drop height adjusted?

The 450mm chain can be shortened by removing links before final installation. Once the lantern is wired and the ceiling rose is fitted, the drop cannot be adjusted without disconnecting the fitting.
