Description
The Redding Station is a single-light outdoor chain lantern built from aluminium with an aged bronze finish and a prismatic glass diffuser. The 305mm-wide shade hangs on a chain with a matching bronze canopy, housing a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) rated up to 60W. The IP44 rating provides protection against rain and dust, allowing the lantern to be installed on covered porches, entrance canopies, and garden walkways where direct overhead weather protection is present.
Designed as period-inspired outdoor lighting, the Redding Station references early 20th-century station and warehouse fixtures through its turned aluminium body and ribbed prismatic glass lens. The 1200mm chain allows the drop to be adjusted between 403mm minimum and 1500mm maximum on installation, letting the lantern be set to suit ceiling heights between 2.2m and 3m. The chain conceals the cable run and fits standard UK outdoor ceiling roses rated for exterior use.
The aged bronze finish is a darker, warmer tone than polished or antique brass, with a subtle patina effect that softens reflections in daylight and blends into brick, stone and timber porch surrounds. The prismatic glass lens diffuses the E27 bulb evenly rather than creating a single bright point, casting ambient light downwards and outwards. The aluminium construction keeps the total weight under 2kg, making the lantern suitable for standard masonry or timber ceiling fixings without additional structural support.

Frequently Asked
Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor locations?
The IP44 rating protects against rain and dust but is designed for covered locations rather than fully exposed positions. Install under a porch canopy, entrance overhang, or covered walkway where the fitting is shielded from direct overhead rain. Avoid locations where the lantern is directly exposed to driving rain or snow accumulation.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to match the period aesthetic. The prismatic glass diffuses the light evenly, so exposed filament bulbs or clear LED filaments show through the lens.
How is the drop adjusted?
The 1200mm chain allows adjustment between 403mm and 1500mm total drop on installation. Remove chain links before wiring to shorten the drop, or use the full chain length for higher ceilings. The excess cable can be looped inside the canopy once the chain length is set.
How is the bronze finish maintained outdoors?
The aged bronze finish is factory-applied and designed to develop a natural patina over time when exposed to outdoor conditions. Wipe the aluminium body with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishes, which will alter the aged appearance. The prismatic glass can be cleaned with a damp cloth and glass cleaner when the power is isolated.
