Description

The Mercury 4-gang extension lead provides four 13A UK sockets on a single housing with a 5m mains cable and moulded 13A plug. The unit is rated at 13A total load across all four outlets, handling up to 3,120W of combined appliance draw on 230V mains. The black polypropylene housing includes keyhole mounting slots on the rear panel, allowing the lead to be fixed to a wall, desk edge or workshop bench.

Designed for home offices, workshops, studios and anywhere additional sockets are needed beyond the reach of wall outlets, the 5m cable length spans larger rooms or allows positioning behind furniture without requiring an intermediate extension. The four outlets are spaced to accommodate standard UK plugs side-by-side, including larger adapters and transformer blocks. The lead conforms to BS1363/A, the British Standard for 13A plugged socket outlets, and carries the appropriate safety certifications for UK domestic and light commercial use.

The black finish and low-profile housing sit visually neutral in most environments. The cable itself is a three-core 1.25mm² PVC-sheathed flex, which provides adequate current-carrying capacity for the 13A rating without excessive cable stiffness. When wall-mounted using the rear keyhole slots, the extension sits flush and keeps the cable run organised rather than trailing across floors.

Frequently Asked

What's the total load limit across all four outlets?

The extension is rated at 13A total, not 13A per outlet. This means the combined load of all devices plugged into the four sockets must not exceed 13A (approximately 3,120W on 230V mains). Exceeding this trips the plug fuse or household circuit breaker.

Can it be mounted on a wall?

Yes. The rear panel includes two keyhole mounting slots that accept standard wood screws or wall plugs, allowing the extension to be fixed horizontally to a wall, desk edge or bench surface.

What cable specification does it use?

The 5m cable is a three-core 1.25mm² PVC-sheathed flex, which meets the current-carrying requirements for a 13A rated extension lead under BS1363/A.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

No. The Mercury extension is rated for indoor use only. It carries no IP rating and should not be used in wet, damp or outdoor environments where moisture could enter the housing or cable.
