Description

The Mercury 2-gang 13A trailing socket is a portable extension socket with two UK 3-pin outlets housed in a white ABS body, secured with visible screw fixings. A cable entry point at one end includes a cord grip that clamps onto the supply cable, preventing the cable from being pulled out of the socket body under tension.

Designed for temporary power distribution in homes, workshops and offices, the trailing socket allows two devices to be powered from a single mains plug. The 13A rating per outlet supports standard UK appliance loads up to 3,120W combined across both sockets. The white ABS housing is impact-resistant and suitable for use on worktops, under desks, and in toolboxes where a fixed wall socket is not accessible.

The socket is built to BS1363/A standard, meaning it meets UK safety requirements for portable socket outlets. The cord grip prevents accidental disconnection when the cable is tugged, which is useful in workshop environments where extension leads are moved frequently. The compact rectangular profile sits flat on surfaces without tipping when plugs are inserted.

Frequently Asked

What cable does it take?

The cord grip accepts standard UK 3-core mains cable (typically 1.5mm² or 2.5mm² flex). The cable is not supplied with the socket. It must be wired by a competent person during installation.

Can I use both sockets at full load?

Yes, provided the combined load across both outlets does not exceed 13A (approximately 3,120W at 240V). If both outlets are used simultaneously with high-draw appliances, the total load must stay within this limit.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

No. The Mercury trailing socket has no IP rating and is designed for indoor use only. Do not use in damp, wet or outdoor environments.

Does it come pre-wired?

No. The socket is supplied without cable and must be wired to a suitable mains flex by a competent electrician or trained person following BS1363/A wiring guidance.
