Description

The Knightsbridge 8-gang tower extension arranges eight 13A sockets vertically on a 326mm-tall column, reducing the desktop or floor footprint compared to traditional horizontal extension blocks. Each socket is angled to allow plugs and adaptors to exit at 45 degrees, preventing cable runs from blocking adjacent outlets. The tower sits on a weighted base and connects to mains via a 2m cable with a BS-approved plug.

Designed for home offices, studio desks, workshop benches and anywhere multiple appliances need power without sprawling horizontal cable runs, the tower suits tight spaces behind desks or between furniture. Surge protection uses L-N type circuitry with two MOVs (metal-oxide varistors) and one gas tube arrestor to clamp voltage spikes from lightning strikes or grid faults. A green neon indicator confirms mains power, and an additional red indicator shows when the surge protection has activated or been compromised.

All eight sockets carry child-protective shutters that require simultaneous insertion of both live and neutral pins to open, preventing single-probe insertion. The thermoset resin housing is rated IP20 for indoor use and certified to BS 5733 and EN 61643 surge protection standards. The 2m cable length allows the tower to be placed at desk height or floor level while reaching a wall socket, and the 60mm width fits between monitor stands or filing cabinets without consuming desk space.

Frequently Asked

How does the surge protection work?

The tower uses L-N type surge protection with two MOVs (metal-oxide varistors) and one gas tube arrestor between live and neutral lines. When a voltage spike occurs from lightning or grid fault, the MOVs clamp the excess voltage to protect connected equipment. The red surge indicator LED shows whether the protection is active or has been compromised and needs replacement.

What's the maximum total load?

The tower is rated 13A at 230V, giving a maximum total load of 2,990W across all eight sockets combined. If connecting high-draw appliances like kettles, heaters or workshop tools, ensure the combined wattage stays below this threshold.

Why are the sockets angled?

Angling the sockets at 45 degrees allows plugs and adaptors to exit at an angle rather than perpendicular to the tower face, preventing cable runs from blocking adjacent outlets above and below. This is particularly useful when connecting bulky plug-in transformers or USB charging bricks.

Is the base removable?

Yes. The weighted base clips onto the bottom of the tower column and can be detached if the tower needs to be wall-mounted or used in a different configuration, though the base provides stability when the tower is freestanding on a desk or floor.
