Description

This Knightsbridge 13A 4-gang extension lead combines surge protection with a 2m cable and four child-protected UK sockets. The surge protection circuit uses two metal oxide varistors (MOVs) and a gas tube arrestor to divert voltage spikes away from connected devices, with a dedicated neon indicator showing when surge protection is active and a second neon confirming mains power.

Designed for home offices, living rooms and workshops where multiple devices need protecting from mains voltage spikes, the extension lead suits desktop computers, monitors, routers, TVs and audio equipment. The low-profile thermoset resin body measures 248mm long by 50mm wide by 28mm high, sitting flat on desks, floors and shelving without tipping when cables are plugged in. Angled socket edges prevent the unit rocking when plugs are inserted at different angles.

The matt white finish blends into domestic and office environments without standing out, and the 2m cable length gives flexibility to reach from floor-level wall sockets to desk height or across a room corner. Each of the four outlets is rated at 13A individually, with the entire unit rated at 13A total load (3,120W maximum combined draw). The extension lead is certified to BS 5733 for general safety and EN 61643 for surge protection performance, and carries IP20 rating for indoor use only.

Frequently Asked

What does the surge protection actually do?

The L-N type surge protection circuit uses two MOVs and a gas tube arrestor to divert voltage spikes above normal mains voltage away from the sockets and into the earth line. This protects connected devices from damage caused by lightning strikes on nearby power lines, grid switching events and appliance motor back-EMF. A dedicated neon indicator shows when surge protection is active.

What's the maximum total load?

The extension lead is rated at 13A total load across all four sockets combined, equivalent to 3,120W at 240V. Individual sockets can handle 13A each, but the combined draw from all connected devices must not exceed 13A total or the fuse in the BS plug will blow.

Are the sockets child-protected?

Yes. Each socket has internal shutters that only open when a three-pin UK plug is inserted simultaneously into all three apertures. Single-pin insertion (e.g. a screwdriver or finger) will not open the shutters.

Can it be used outdoors or in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means the unit is suitable for dry indoor locations only. It is not weatherproof and should not be used in bathrooms, kitchens near sinks, garages, sheds or any outdoor location where moisture is present.
