Description

The QTX HIPAR DMX extension lead is a 3m IP65-rated cable designed to extend DMX control signals between QTX HIPAR weatherproof PAR cans and other compatible fixtures. The cable uses 3-pin XLR-style connectors at both ends, housed in rubberised weatherproof shells that maintain the IP65 rating when mated with IP65-rated fixture sockets.

Designed for outdoor stage lighting, events, architectural installations and garden lighting where fixtures are spaced beyond the reach of standard DMX cables, the lead allows multiple HIPAR PAR cans to be daisy-chained across distances up to 3m between fixtures. The IP65 rating protects the cable and connectors from rain, dust and temporary submersion, making it suitable for use in British weather without requiring additional protection or cable covers.

The cable core is a shielded twisted-pair construction that maintains DMX512 signal integrity across the 3m run, preventing data loss or flicker in controlled fixtures. The outer sheath is a flexible black rubber compound that resists UV degradation and remains pliable in low temperatures, so the cable does not stiffen or crack during outdoor winter use. The connectors are keyed to prevent incorrect insertion and include strain relief glands where the cable enters each housing.

Frequently Asked

Is this cable compatible with non-QTX DMX fixtures?

The cable uses standard 3-pin XLR-style connectors and will physically mate with most DMX fixtures. However, the IP65 weatherproof rating is only maintained when used with IP65-rated sockets on both ends, such as those on QTX HIPAR PAR cans. Using it with non-weatherproof fixtures outdoors exposes the connection point to moisture ingress.

Can multiple extension leads be daisy-chained?

Yes. DMX512 protocol allows cable runs up to 300m before signal degradation becomes an issue, so multiple 3m extensions can be linked together. For runs beyond 100m or complex layouts with many fixtures, a DMX signal booster or splitter is recommended to maintain data integrity.

Does the cable carry power or just DMX signal?

This is a DMX signal cable only. It carries control data between fixtures but does not supply mains power. Each fixture in the chain requires its own power connection.

What temperature range can the cable withstand?

The rubberised sheath is rated for outdoor use in typical UK weather conditions, remaining flexible in winter temperatures down to approximately -10°C and resisting UV degradation in summer sun. Avoid leaving the cable coiled tightly in direct sunlight for extended periods, as this can accelerate wear on the outer sheath.
