Description

The Mercury is a 6-gang extension lead with integrated surge and spike protection, a green neon power indicator and a 5m cable rated at 250V. Each of the six outlets accepts standard UK 13A plugs, with the surge protection circuit safeguarding connected devices from voltage spikes caused by lightning strikes, grid switching or inductive loads switching off.

Designed for home offices, workshop benches and entertainment centres where multiple devices need mains power from a single wall socket, the 5m cable reaches from floor-level sockets to desk height or across a room to media units. The white housing includes keyholes on the rear for wall mounting above a worktop or behind a desk, keeping the lead off the floor and preventing cable tangles. The green neon indicator confirms the extension is receiving mains power.

The 3 x 1.25mm² cable core provides 13A capacity across all six outlets combined, which is sufficient for typical office equipment (monitors, laptops, printers) or home entertainment setups (TV, soundbar, games console). The surge protection circuit inside the housing diverts voltage spikes to earth before they reach connected equipment, protecting against damage to power supplies and circuit boards. The lead is non-rewireable and conforms to BS1363/A.

Specification
Cable 3 x 1.25mm²
Voltage 250Vac
Length 5m
Frequently Asked

What does the surge protection protect against?

The surge protection circuit diverts voltage spikes and surges caused by lightning strikes on the grid, switching of large inductive loads, or grid faults. It protects connected devices by absorbing the spike before it reaches their power supplies. It does not protect against sustained overvoltage or power cuts.

What is the total current capacity across all six outlets?

The 3 x 1.25mm² cable is rated at 13A total across all six outlets combined, not 13A per outlet. The total load plugged into the extension should not exceed 13A (approximately 3,120W at 240V). Exceeding this will overload the cable and may trip the plug fuse.

Can the extension lead be mounted on a wall?

Yes. The rear of the housing includes keyholes for wall mounting. Use two screws spaced to match the keyhole positions to mount the lead above a worktop or behind a desk.

What does the green neon indicator show?

The green neon illuminates when the extension lead is receiving mains power from the wall socket, confirming that the circuit is live. It does not indicate whether individual outlets are in use or whether the surge protection is functioning.
