Description

The Mercury 4-gang switched extension lead provides four independently switched 13A sockets on a 2-metre cable, with a standard UK 3-pin plug fitted. Each socket has its own rocker switch positioned directly above it, allowing individual devices to be powered on or off without unplugging or reaching for a wall switch. The extension lead conforms to BS1363/A standards and carries a 13A maximum load rating across all four sockets combined.

Designed for desks, workbenches, kitchen worktops and entertainment units where multiple devices need mains power within 2 metres of a wall socket, the extension lead suits home offices, workshops, living rooms and kitchens. The white housing blends with most wall colours and worktop finishes. Two keyhole mounting slots on the rear allow the extension lead to be screwed to a wall, skirting board or under-desk surface, keeping it off the floor and reducing cable clutter.

The 2-metre cable gives reach from floor-level wall sockets to desktop height or across a room to a media unit without requiring multiple extension leads. The individual switches allow standby power to be cut from devices like monitors, printers, phone chargers and kitchen appliances when not in use, rather than leaving them drawing phantom load. The switches are rated for regular daily operation and make an audible click when toggled.

Frequently Asked

What is the combined maximum load across all four sockets?

The extension lead is rated at 13A total, which equates to 2,990W at 230V. This is the combined load across all four sockets, not 13A per socket. Exceeding this total will trip the fuse in the plug.

Can it be used for high-power appliances like kettles or heaters?

A kettle typically draws 10-13A and a heater 8-13A, so either can be plugged into this extension lead alone. However, running a kettle plus other devices simultaneously may exceed the 13A combined limit and trip the fuse.

How are the keyhole slots used for wall mounting?

Two keyhole slots on the rear of the housing align with screws driven into a wall, skirting board or desk underside. Drive screws partway in, leaving 3-4mm proud, then hook the extension lead onto the screw heads and slide down to lock in place.

Does switching off a socket cut power to the device completely?

Yes. When the rocker switch above a socket is in the off position, mains power to that socket is isolated, cutting standby draw from devices like phone chargers, monitors and printers.
