Description

Gallery L is a wall mirror 170cm high by 70cm wide with an arched top, and a band of gold leaf laid directly onto the glass running up one side and over the arch. The leaf is applied in overlapping squares with the joins left visible and the inner edge torn rather than cut, so the band reads as something made by hand on the surface of the mirror. There is no frame at all: at 1cm deep the glass sits almost flush to the wall.

The arch and the height together make it read as a doorway rather than a mirror, which is the point of it: on a plain wall at the end of a hallway it looks like a way through. It hangs in one direction, since the arch has a top. It is not rated for bathroom use, so keep it to dry rooms. At 13kg it is a one person lift, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble. Give it a wall it can stand alone on rather than a group.

The mirror is mirrored glass with hand applied gold metal leaf and no frame. Clean the glass with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and keep it off the leaf, dusting the gold dry instead, because the leaf sits on the surface with nothing over it. The torn inner edge is deliberate rather than a fault, and it is what stops the band reading as printed. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.
