Description

Gallery S is an arch, 46cm wide and 90cm tall, straight sided for most of its height and then closing into a half round at the top. A band of gold leaf runs down one side, applied by hand in overlapping squares whose joins you can see if you look closely.

An arch reads softer on a wall than a rectangle of the same size, and at this width it behaves like a panel rather than a mirror you dress in front of. It suits a narrow return wall, the space between two doors, or a downstairs cloakroom where the shape does more work than the reflection. The leaf sits on one side only, so the piece has a direction: hang it with the gold towards the light and it catches; hang it away and it reads almost black. It is not rated for a bathroom.

The construction is mirrored glass with hand applied gold metal leaf and no frame, so what you see at the edge is cut glass. Applied by hand means the coverage varies from mirror to mirror and no two are identical, which is the point of doing it that way. At 4kg and hung one way up it is a straightforward one person job with the two screws, washers and plugs supplied, and nothing needs assembling. Clean the glass with cleaner sprayed onto a cloth and keep it off the leaf. A 170cm version of the same design is made if the wall wants a full height arch.
