Description

Ondavia is a round wall mirror set into a deep ring of natural Spanish alabaster. The ring is cut as a half round section, thick at the outer edge and tapering inward to meet the glass, and it is lit from within so the stone itself becomes the light source. There is no visible metal on the face and no fitting sitting proud of it; the illumination comes from behind the alabaster and reads as a soft ring of warmth around the reflection.

It measures 800mm across and stands 85mm off the wall, which is deep enough for the ring to cast light onto the wall behind as well as forward into the room. At that diameter it works over a console in a hallway, above a basin in a bathroom, or on its own as the lit element of a wall that has no other fitting. The 28W integrated LED gives enough output to serve as usable light rather than decoration alone, so it can carry a hallway on its own in the evening.

The alabaster is natural Spanish stone, so the cloud and veining differ around the ring and no two mirrors are identical. Unlit the frame reads as pale cream against the wall; lit, the veining surfaces and the ring warms unevenly rather than evenly. That is the point of lighting through stone rather than through an acrylic diffuser, which would give a flat and uniform line of light with nothing in it to look at. The stainless steel carcass sits behind the stone and out of sight, so nothing interrupts the face of the piece.
