Description

The ESP MagDuo is a 2-wire fire alarm sounder designed for ceiling mounting in commercial and residential fire detection systems. The unit measures 150mm diameter and 80mm depth, with a red ABS housing and black grille apertures around the perimeter that allow the sound to project 360 degrees across a room or corridor. The built-in end-of-line function eliminates the need for external resistors when wiring the device into conventional fire alarm panels.

Designed for offices, residential buildings, schools, care homes and retail premises, the MagDuo connects via standard 2-core fire-rated cable and operates on typical 12-24V DC alarm panel outputs. The volume adjustment dial on the underside of the sounder allows the output to be set between approximately 85dB and 102dB at 1 metre, making it suitable for both small rooms requiring lower output and larger open-plan areas needing higher coverage. The device wiring base is included and separates from the sounder head for easier cable termination during installation.

The red housing carries an IP21C ingress protection rating, making the sounder suitable for most indoor environments but not for outdoor exposure or high-moisture areas such as shower rooms or external canopies. The ABS construction keeps the installed weight to 250g, which is light enough for most standard ceiling tiles in suspended grid systems without requiring additional support. The MagDuo is one component in ESP's wider range of fire detection devices and is typically specified alongside compatible detectors and call points on the same zone wiring.

Frequently Asked

What does 2-wire mean?

The sounder connects to the fire alarm panel using just two cores of cable, carrying both power and the trigger signal on the same pair. This simplifies wiring compared to 4-wire devices that need separate power and signal pairs.

What is the built-in end-of-line function?

The sounder includes an internal resistor that allows the fire alarm panel to monitor the circuit and detect cable faults. Without this, you would need to fit a separate end-of-line resistor at the last device on the zone.

Can the volume be adjusted after installation?

Yes. A dial on the underside of the sounder adjusts the output between approximately 85dB and 102dB at 1 metre. This can be set during commissioning and re-adjusted later if needed.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

No. The IP21C rating protects against solid objects larger than 12.5mm and vertical drips of water, but the MagDuo is intended for indoor use only. It is not rated for direct weather exposure or high-moisture environments like shower rooms.
