Description

The ESP MAGfire DBS-1 is a detector base sounder providing 93dB audible output at 1 metre, designed to be fitted beneath conventional fire detectors on standard screw-fixed detector bases. The sounder draws 18mA current and operates on conventional fire alarm loops, allowing multiple base sounders to be wired in series across a zone without requiring separate cabling.

Used in commercial, industrial and residential fire alarm installations where local sounders are needed at detector locations rather than relying solely on panel-driven bells or sirens, the base sounder provides immediate audible alert at the point of detection. The 120mm circular white housing sits between the detector base and ceiling, with the detector itself mounted on top of the sounder unit. This reduces visible wiring and provides a compact integrated appearance compared to separate wall-mounted sounders.

The 93dB output at 1m provides sufficient alert volume for small to medium rooms, corridors and residential bedrooms where the sounder is typically within 3-5m of occupants. The white finish matches standard white fire detector housings and ceiling tiles. The unit weighs 180g installed, adding minimal load to the detector base fixing. Current draw of 18mA per sounder must be factored into zone load calculations during system design.

Frequently Asked

What detector bases is this compatible with?

The DBS-1 fits standard screw-fixed conventional fire detector bases. The sounder mounts between the base and ceiling, with the detector itself fitted on top. Check the datasheet for specific base compatibility and wiring diagrams.

How many base sounders can be wired on one zone?

Each sounder draws 18mA. The maximum number per zone depends on your fire panel's zone current capacity. A typical 500mA zone can support approximately 27 base sounders, but you must account for other devices on the same zone including detectors and call points.

Is 93dB loud enough for a bedroom or small office?

Yes. 93dB at 1m provides sufficient alert volume for small to medium rooms where the sounder is typically within 3-5m of occupants. For larger open-plan areas or high-noise environments, panel-driven bells or wall-mounted sounders may be more appropriate.

Does it require separate wiring from the detector?

No. The sounder operates on the same conventional loop wiring as the detector, reducing installation complexity and visible cable runs compared to separate wall-mounted sounders.
