Description

The ESP MAGfire Banshee is a conventional fire alarm sounder with 32 user-selectable tones and adjustable output between 87-112dB at 1 metre. The sounder mounts to a standard UK fire alarm back box via a push-and-twist bayonet mechanism with a locking screw, and the weatherproof IP45-rated enclosure allows both indoor and sheltered outdoor installation.

Designed for commercial and industrial fire alarm systems, the Banshee meets EN 54 part 3 requirements for fire detection and alarm sounders. The 32 tones allow installers to differentiate between alert types or zones within a larger building, and the three volume levels (low, medium, high) can be selected on-site during commissioning to match the acoustic environment without needing to replace the device.

The sounder accepts cable entry from the side or rear, with robust 2.5mm terminals configured in a two-in, two-out layout for daisy-chaining multiple sounders on a single loop. The red polycarbonate housing resists impact and UV degradation, and an optional weatherproof deep base extends the IP rating for fully exposed external positions. Current draw is low across all volume settings, reducing load on fire panel outputs and allowing more devices per zone.

Frequently Asked

What voltage does the Banshee operate on?

The sounder is designed for conventional fire alarm systems, typically operating on 12V or 24V DC depending on the fire panel configuration. Check the Product Manual in the Downloads tab for the full operating voltage range and current draw per volume level.

Can the tone be changed after installation?

Yes. The 32 tones are user-selectable via an internal DIP switch or rotary selector accessible after removing the sounder cover. This allows tones to be changed during commissioning or maintenance without rewiring.

Is the sounder suitable for outdoor use?

The IP45 rating provides protection against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction, making the Banshee suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as under canopies or soffits. For fully exposed outdoor locations, ESP offers an optional weatherproof deep base that extends the IP rating.

What's the maximum cable size for the terminals?

The terminals accept cables up to 2.5mm² and are configured in a loop-through layout (two in, two out) for daisy-chaining multiple sounders on a single zone circuit. Refer to the installation manual for recommended cable types and maximum loop resistance.
