Grid & Modular Wiring

A build-your-own approach to wiring a plate. Pick a faceplate from one to twelve gang, then drop in the modules you need: retractive, toggle and key switches, trailing-edge and intelligent dimmers, dual USB-A chargers, CAT6A data and TV/SAT modules, plus neon indicators. Finishes run from matt white and black to brushed and antique brass. Fixed wiring should be fitted by a qualified electrician.

How the grid system works

The grid system is a build-your-own approach to wiring a plate. You start with a faceplate, then drop in the separate modules you need to fill it. This lets you mix functions on a single plate rather than buying a fixed unit, which is useful where one position has to do several jobs at once.

Faceplates and frames

Faceplates and modular plates are available in a range of gang sizes, from compact single-gang plates up to larger grid faceplates such as the eight-gang option, along with modular floor plates for positions set into the floor. Finishes span white, matt black, polished chrome, brushed chrome, antique brass, brushed brass and polished brass, with edge profiles including square edge, rounded edge, flat plate and screwless, so the plate can be matched to the rest of a room.

The modules you can fit

Modules cover the common wiring needs. There are retractive and toggle switch modules, double pole toggle modules, dimmer modules with rotary control, and data and media outlets such as TV and SAT TV outlets in isolated and non-isolated forms. Touchless switch modules and clearly marked switch covers, for example a cover marked for a wine cooler, help label specific circuits at a glance.

How to plan a plate

Work out how many functions a position needs, then choose a faceplate with enough gangs to hold those modules plus a little room to spare. Group related controls together, keep one finish across the plate, and note where data or media outlets sit so cabling can be planned behind the wall. Building the plate this way keeps a busy position tidy and readable.

Where the grid suits best

Grid plates work well in kitchens, studies, media walls and commercial spaces where a single position controls lighting, appliances and data together. Fixed wiring should be fitted by a qualified electrician. Free delivery worldwide on all orders over £99.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a grid wiring system work?
You choose a grid frame and faceplate for the number of positions you need, then fit individual modules into each gang. It lets you mix switches, dimmers, USB charging and data on a single plate, and swap a module later without changing the whole plate.

What modules can I fit on a grid plate?
The range covers retractive, toggle and key switch modules, dimmer modules including trailing-edge and intelligent types, dual USB-A charger modules, CAT6A data modules, TV and SAT modules, and LED indicator modules.

How many gang sizes are available?
Faceplates run from single gang up to twelve gang, so you can build anything from one switch to a large multi-function plate for a kitchen, office or AV wall. Pick the gang count to match how many modules you plan to fit.

What finishes do the plates come in?
Faceplates are offered in matt white, matt black, anthracite, brushed and polished chrome, polished and brushed brass, antique brass, black nickel and smoked bronze, so the plate can match other switches and sockets in the room.

Can I wire a grid plate myself?
Modules clip into the frame without tools, but the plate connects to fixed mains wiring. That part is a job for a qualified electrician, who will make sure the load on each switch and dimmer module is right for the circuit.
