Description

The Knightsbridge RJ11 outlet module provides a single telephone socket in a 25 x 50mm euro-module format, designed to fit into modular grid faceplates. The module uses insulation displacement contact (IDC) terminals for toolless connection of telephone cable cores, and is certified to BS 5733 for fixed telecoms installations.

The module is intended for residential and light commercial telephone installations where a modular faceplate system is already in use, allowing telephone points to be combined with power sockets, data ports and other modules on a single plate. The 25 x 50mm footprint fits standard 1-module euro-grid spaces, and the 18mm recessed depth requires a minimum 25mm back box to accommodate the module and cable terminations.

The black ABS construction provides an IP20-rated enclosure suitable for dry indoor environments. The RJ11 connector accepts standard 6P4C telephone plugs used on landline handsets and corded phones throughout the UK. IDC terminals grip and pierce the cable insulation when the cores are pushed home, eliminating the need for stripping or crimping during installation.

What is an IDC terminal?

IDC stands for insulation displacement contact. The terminal grips the telephone cable core and pierces the insulation when the cable is pushed into the slot, creating the electrical connection without needing to strip the cable first. This speeds up installation and reduces the risk of wiring errors.

What faceplate does this module fit?

The module fits any euro-module grid faceplate with 25 x 50mm module spaces. Knightsbridge produces compatible grid plates in 1-gang, 2-gang and 3-gang sizes across multiple finishes. The module can be combined with power sockets, data modules and blank plates on the same faceplate.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 25mm back box depth is needed to accommodate the 18mm recessed depth of the module plus the cable terminations behind it. Standard 35mm or 47mm back boxes provide ample clearance.

Is this suitable for ADSL broadband?

The RJ11 outlet can be used for ADSL microfilter connections, but for best performance ADSL filters should be connected at the master socket or NTE5 faceplate rather than at extension sockets. This module is primarily intended for voice telephone extensions.
