Gold Ceiling Lights

Our gold ceiling lights add warmth to a room from above, and we stock flush fittings that sit tight to the ceiling as well as semi-flush designs that hang a little lower. Each has a gold finish. Some are antique, matt or polished gold, and most pair the gold with crystal, glass or fabric. Most are dimmable, and many take E27 or E14 bulbs or have an integrated LED.

Flush or semi-flush gold ceiling lights

Start with your ceiling height when you choose between flush and semi-flush. A gold flush ceiling light sits tight to the ceiling, keeping headroom clear in a hallway, on a landing or in a low room. A semi-flush fitting drops a little lower, which suits a room of ordinary height and gives glass, crystal or a fabric shade more room to show. For a light on a longer drop, see our pendant lights and chandeliers.

Most of our gold ceiling lights suit a living room, and many work well in a hallway, bedroom or dining room. Measure floor to ceiling before you choose, and check the height on the listing.

Gold tones on our ceiling lights

Each light here has a gold finish, but gold covers a wide family of tones. Many have a polished finish, which catches the light and suits a crisp, modern room. Many are matt, a calmer look that hides fingerprints. We also stock brass tones, and antique finishes with a deeper, warmer cast that suits older furniture. A few have a brushed finish with a fine grain. On a few, a satin finish gives a low, gentle sheen. For a paler tone, a few lean towards champagne.

Many pair gold with black or white, which helps a fitting sit with the furniture already in the room. Most are modern in style, and we stock traditional, vintage and industrial designs too. A few take their cue from art deco.

Crystal, glass and fabric gold ceiling lights

Most of our gold ceiling lights are made with metal, and what surrounds the light decides how it falls. We stock crystal designs, which scatter small points of light across the ceiling and walls and bring sparkle to a dining room. Many use glass. Clear glass leaves the bulb on show, so choose a decorative bulb, while opal glass gives a soft, even glow with little glare.

Fabric shades soften the light further and add texture, a good choice over a bed. Many use acrylic, which is lighter than glass and puts less load on the ceiling.

Bulbs and dimming for gold ceiling lights

Check the cap before you buy bulbs. Many of our gold ceiling lights take E27, the larger screw cap, which gives the widest choice of bulb shapes. Many take the smaller E14, which suits candle bulbs, and many use G9 capsules, small enough to tuck inside glass and crystal. We also stock integrated LED fittings with the light source built in, so there are no bulbs to buy. Unless a listing says bulbs are included, plan to buy them separately.

Most of the lights here are dimmable. For bulb fittings, that means dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch. Some are not dimmable, so check before you fit a dimmer. Warm white, around 3000K, brings out the richness of gold in a living room or bedroom. We also stock cool white and daylight options for close work. Some let you change the colour temperature to suit the time of day.

Choosing a gold ceiling light for a bathroom

If you are lighting a bathroom, choose a fitting rated IP44, which means it is protected against splashing water. We stock gold ceiling lights with that rating. Ask your electrician to confirm where it can go, since the right position depends on how close it sits to the bath or shower. Without IP44 on its listing, a light belongs in a dry room, such as a living room, bedroom or hallway.

Matching a gold ceiling light to wall lights

A room looks settled when its fittings share the same finish, so start with your gold ceiling light and carry its tone onto the walls. Our gold wall lights are the natural partner, and a switch plate in a similar tone finishes the job. A few fittings here can also be fixed to a wall, which gives an exact match.

Gold tones vary, so compare like with like: a polished ceiling light beside antique wall lights can look like a mistake. Check too whether the gold is on the frame, the shade or the trim, as that changes how much gold you see across the room.

Caring for a gold ceiling light finish

A gold finish is a plated, painted or leafed surface, so it wears where it is rubbed or scrubbed and needs a gentle hand. Switch the light off and let it cool, then dust the finish with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid anything abrasive, including scouring pads and cream cleaners, and never use metal polish, which can strip or dull the surface. Keep spray cleaners and damp cloths away from it too.

Glass shades and crystal drops that lift off can be washed in warm, soapy water, then dried fully before they go back on. Fabric shades need only a soft brush. When you change a bulb, touch the gold as little as you can, as fingerprints show on a polished finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the gold finish on a ceiling light wear off?

It can if it is rubbed or scrubbed, because the gold is a plated, painted or leafed surface. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth, and keep abrasive cleaners and metal polish well away. If fingerprints worry you, a matt, brushed or antique finish shows them less than polished gold.

Can I put a gold ceiling light in a bathroom?

Yes, as long as it is rated IP44, and you will find gold ceiling lights with that rating here. Your electrician will confirm where it can safely go in relation to the bath or shower. Any fitting without that rating is for a dry room.

Do gold ceiling lights come with bulbs?

Integrated LED fittings have the light source built in, so you will not need bulbs for those. For fittings that take bulbs, check the cap on the listing, such as E27, E14 or G9, and buy bulbs to match unless it says they are included.

Can I dim a gold ceiling light?

Most of ours are dimmable. Some are not, so check the listing before you plan a dimmer. Where a fitting takes bulbs, you need dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch, which your electrician can confirm.

Which gold ceiling light suits a low ceiling?

A gold flush ceiling light is the better choice, because it sits tight to the ceiling and keeps the most headroom. Semi-flush designs drop a little lower, so check the height on the listing against your room before you order.

How do I match a gold ceiling light with my wall lights?

Keep the same finish and tone across the room, so a matt gold ceiling light sits best with matt gold wall lights, and antique with antique. Our gold wall lights are the place to look. A few fittings on this page can also be mounted on a wall, if you want an exact match.

Do I need an electrician to fit a gold ceiling light?

Yes, we recommend a qualified electrician for any ceiling light, as it connects to your home's wiring. They can also check that the ceiling fixing will carry a heavier crystal fitting and that the circuit is earthed where the fitting requires it.
