Description

A wide drum shade in dual faux silk sits close beneath the ceiling here, taupe on the outside with a halo gold lining that warms the light as it drops. The frame behind it is satin nickel, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, so the lamps read as one soft, even glow rather than separate bright points. At 50cm across it is a broad, calm shape that fills the space above a room without pulling attention to itself.

We reach for this one in hallways, landings and bedrooms where a hanging pendant would sit too low for comfort, and it works well over a dining table in a room with a modest ceiling height. It holds three E27 lamps rated to 20W each, so there is plenty of light for a main room while the diffuser keeps the spread gentle underfoot. It can be dimmed where both the lamps and the dimmer are suited to the job, which makes it easy to take a bright kitchen-diner down to something quieter in the evening. Lamps are not included, and we would fit warm white LED GLS lamps.

The fabric is stretched over a shallow drum, with the metalwork left in a soft satin sheen rather than a mirror polish, so fingermarks and dust show far less. For the shade, a light going over with a soft brush now and then is all it asks; the frame and diffuser take a dry cloth, with the power off and the fitting cool first. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from steam and splashes. It carries a one year warranty.
