Description

A wide drum shade in taupe faux silk sits close to the ceiling on a satin nickel frame, lined in halo gold so the light picks up a warm cast on its way into the room. Across the shade it measures 40cm, which gives it presence without turning it into the loudest thing overhead, and the shallow metalwork keeps the whole fitting tucked up near the ceiling. One E27 lamp sits inside, so you can set the brightness by choosing the lamp rather than by adding hardware.

This is the fitting we suggest when a pendant would hang too low for comfort: hallways and landings, bedrooms, a study, or a sitting room with a standard ceiling. The fabric shade takes the hard edge off the light, which makes it easy company in rooms used in the evening. It is dimmable if you pair a suitable lamp with a compatible dimmer, neither of which comes with it. Being rated for dry rooms only, it belongs anywhere away from splashes and steam, so bathrooms and covered porches are out.

The frame is metal in a satin nickel finish, brushed rather than mirror bright, and the shade is a dual faux silk with the taupe outer and gold interior worked as one piece. To keep it looking right, run a soft brush or the upholstery tool of a vacuum lightly over the fabric now and then, and give the nickel a wipe with a dry cloth; skip sprays and polishes, which mark faux silk. It carries a one year warranty. Overall height is 380mm, with the metal body accounting for 180mm of that, so it stays close to the ceiling rather than dropping into head height.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp with a dimmer switch matched to it. No dimmer is included.

Is the gold a separate finish option?

No, the halo gold is the lining inside the taupe shade. The visible metalwork is satin nickel.

How should I clean the faux silk shade?

Switch off at the wall first, then lift dust with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery tool used gently. Water and cleaning sprays can stain the fabric, so keep them away from it.
