Description

A drum shade in taupe faux silk sits on an antique brass fitting, with a halo gold lining inside that warms the light as it spreads. The shade measures 40cm across, and beneath it a frosted acrylic diffuser, ringed in antique brass, softens the downward glare. Being semi flush, the whole fitting holds close to the ceiling rather than hanging on a rod or a length of flex, which gives a broad, quiet wash of light overhead.

We reach for this in rooms where a pendant would sit too low: landings, hallways, bedrooms, and over a dressing table or a reading chair. It takes an E27 lamp, so an LED GLS is the natural choice, and with a compatible lamp and dimmer switch fitted the level can be brought down for the evening. The taupe and gold pairing suits warm schemes, oak and walnut furniture, brass door handles and softer paint colours, though it settles just as happily into a plain white room.

The outer face of the shade is taupe, the inner face halo gold, and the acrylic diffuser closes the base so the light leaves both through the fabric and straight down. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, and wipe the diffuser and the brasswork with a dry cloth when the power is off and the lamp has cooled. Fit a lamp of no more than 20W. It carries a one year warranty.
