Description

Five E27 sockets sit behind a frosted acrylic diffuser, so what reaches the room below is soft and even rather than a row of visible lamps. The outer shade is taupe faux silk with a halo gold lining, and that gold does quiet work, warming the light that passes out through the sides. At 50cm across and 20cm deep it reads as a broad, shallow drum held tight against the ceiling.

The flush profile earns its keep where a pendant would hang into head height: hallways and landings, bedrooms under a lower ceiling, a top floor room with sloping eaves. There is enough output here for a family sitting room or a dining table as well, and with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer on the circuit the level can be brought down for the evening. We would fit LED GLS lamps in it, which is the type this fitting is built around.

The shade is dual faux silk, taupe outside and halo gold within, with the acrylic diffuser closing the underside, so the fitting looks finished from directly below as well as from across the room. Taupe is a forgiving colour, sitting happily with warm whites, oak and greys alike, while the gold lining stops it going flat. Dust the silk with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, and wipe the diffuser with a barely damp cloth once the lamps have gone cold. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from steam and splashing. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range takes in semi flush fittings in polished chrome, antique brass, satin nickel and satin black, along with linear pendants for hanging over a table. Lamps are not included.
