Baymont Semi Flush Ceiling Light Taupe - Antique Brass

A shallow drop from the ceiling, a taupe faux silk drum and a warm gold lining within: this is a quiet fitting that sits close overhead rather than hanging in the way. The shade measures 30cm across, wide enough to spread light softly, with antique brass metalwork above and below it. That lining catches the light and throws it back with a little warmth, so the glow is gentle rather than flat.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: hallways, landings, bedrooms and smaller sitting rooms with ceilings that have no height to spare. It takes a single E27 lamp, and we would fit an LED GLS here for everyday use. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and dimmer, bought separately, which suits a bedroom where you want the level brought down in the evening. It sits happily in a room already dressed in warm neutrals, where a cooler metal would read as too hard.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, softened rather than bright, and the shade is a dual faux silk, taupe on the outside with the gold face turned inward. To keep it looking well, lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery tool of a vacuum on low suction, then wipe the brass with a dry cloth; no sprays or polishes on either surface. It is meant for dry rooms indoors, wired into a normal household circuit with an earth. It carries a one year warranty. The same antique brass runs through the range on the linear pendants and on a smaller semi flush fixture built to take a shade of your own choosing, so you can pick up the finish elsewhere in the house. The shade is 300mm in diameter and the fitting is 375mm from the ceiling to the base of the shade, with a body height of 170mm.

What lamp does it take, and how powerful can it be?

One E27 lamp up to 20W. A GLS A60 shaped LED is the sensible choice and gives plenty of light for a hallway or bedroom.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp with a matching dimmer switch. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the fitting.

What is the shade made from?

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a covered porch?

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry indoor rooms away from steam and splashing.

How should the brass be cleaned?

A dry, soft cloth is all it needs. Avoid metal polish, cream cleaners and anything abrasive, as these will mark the antique finish.
