Description

A wide drum shade sits close under the ceiling here, finished in antique gold faux silk with a ruby lining that warms the light passing through it. The frame is polished chrome, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the base so the lamp is never in direct view. At 60cm across it reads as a large fitting, with an overall drop of 42cm that keeps it well clear of head height. The shade is deep enough to give the fitting real presence without pulling far away from the ceiling line.

We would put it in a dining room over a table, or in a hallway or bedroom where a pendant would hang too low for comfort. Light travels down through the diffuser and out through the fabric, so the effect is soft rather than pinpointed. It suits a room where you want the ceiling to stay uncluttered but still want something with size to it. It takes an E27 lamp, and an LED GLS is what we reach for, rated to no more than 20W. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and dimmer, neither of which comes with the fitting.

The shade is made as a dual layer, gold on the outside and ruby within, and the chrome is polished to a bright, even finish.
