A shallow drum of taupe faux silk sits tight to the ceiling, lined on the inside with halo gold so the light takes a warm cast on its way down. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the shade and turns three E27 lamps into an even glow rather than separate bright spots. At 30cm across it reads as a tidy circle rather than a centrepiece, and the low profile keeps it well clear of head height in rooms where a hanging fitting would be in the way.

We would fit this in a hallway, on a landing, or in a bedroom where the ceiling sits low and a pendant would be a nuisance. It suits a small dining room too, where the gold lining warms the light over a table. Each lamp holder takes up to 20W, which is generous for LED, and a GLS shape is what we would choose so the bulbs stay hidden behind the diffuser. It will dim, given dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch.

The shade is faux silk in a soft mushroom taupe, a colour that sits happily against magnolia, greige and warm white walls, and the acrylic diffuser gives the fitting a clean face when the lamps are off. Dust the fabric with a soft brush, working around rather than across the seam, and wipe the diffuser with a dry cloth once the lamps have cooled. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included. The wider range runs to universal flush fittings and linear pendants in polished chrome, antique brass, satin nickel, satin black and white if you would rather choose a shade yourself.

What lamps does it take?

Three E27 lamps, each up to 20W. An LED GLS (A60) shape is the sensible choice and sits neatly behind the diffuser. Lamps are supplied separately.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer switch. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with the fitting.

How much room does it need on the ceiling?

It measures 300mm in diameter with a height of 170mm, so it stays close to the ceiling and works under lower heights.

Is the gold finish on the outside of the shade?

No. The outer face is taupe faux silk; the halo gold is the inner lining, which is what gives the downward light its warm tone.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

It is intended for dry indoor rooms such as bedrooms, hallways and living spaces, so we would not put it in a bathroom or a covered porch.

How should I clean the shade and diffuser?

Switch off first. A soft brush lifts dust from the fabric, and the acrylic diffuser wipes over with a dry cloth once the lamps are cool. Avoid sprays and solvents on the silk.
