A wide, shallow drum sits close to the ceiling here, finished in gold leaf over a white lining, with a frosted acrylic diffuser closing the underside. The gold reads warm and slightly broken rather than flat metallic, and the pale lining keeps the light passing through it clean. Three E27 lampholders sit above the diffuser, so brightness spreads across the whole face instead of gathering in one hot spot. At 40cm across, it has presence while staying tight to the ceiling line.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: hallways and landings, a bedroom, a kitchen with a lower ceiling, or a sitting room that wants even light rather than a pool over one spot. The gold warms cooler paint colours and sits happily with brass or timber elsewhere in the room. Fitted with suitable lamps and paired with a dimmer, it will dim, which is worth knowing in a bedroom. The shade is a laminate in gold leaf and white on a metal frame, and the diffuser below it is frosted acrylic, which takes the edge off the lamps behind. A soft brush or a dry cloth keeps dust off the shade, while the acrylic prefers a barely damp cloth, dried straight after. It carries a one year warranty. Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch. Neither the lamps nor the dimmer come with the fitting.

Is the gold finish painted on?

The shade is a gold leaf effect laminate with a white lining, so the colour is part of the material rather than a coating that can be polished off. Wipe gently and avoid solvents or cream cleaners.

Will it suit a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which means dry interior rooms only.
