Description

A shallow drum of dual faux silk sits tight to the ceiling here, antique gold on the outside with a ruby lining that gives the downward light a warm cast. A frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, so the lamps inside read as one even wash rather than separate hot spots. The metalwork is polished chrome, bright enough to pick up the gold in the fabric and stop the whole thing looking heavy. At 50cm across it has real presence overhead while giving away almost none of the room's height.

Three E27 lamps between them cover a good sized room, which makes this a sensible choice for a sitting room, a main bedroom or a wide landing where a hanging fitting would only be in the way. We reach for it in hallways and rooms with a low ceiling for exactly that reason, and it works under a beam or a sloped section too. With suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer the light can be taken down, useful in a bedroom where you want a lower level late in the evening.

Fabric shade, acrylic diffuser and chrome metalwork make up the whole fitting, and each wants slightly different treatment. Go over the silk with a soft brush now and then, and wipe the diffuser and the chrome with a barely damp cloth once the light has been off long enough to cool. Nothing abrasive near the acrylic, as it scratches. It carries a one year warranty.
