Description

A broad drum shade sits tight under the ceiling here, dressed in faux silk with an antique gold outer face and a ruby lining that warms everything passing through it. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser edged in polished chrome closes the base, softening the five E27 lamps held inside so the light arrives as a wash rather than in bright points. At 60cm across it is a generous disc, wide enough to hold a room on its own.

We would fit this where a hanging pendant is out of the question: a landing, a hallway with a low ceiling, a bedroom where the bed sits directly beneath, or a dining room in a flat with modest head height. There is plenty of output for a main room, and it will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer. Pear-shaped GLS lamps in LED suit it best, up to 20W apiece, and they keep the diffuser evenly lit.

The frame is polished chrome and wants an earthed supply, as metal-bodied fittings of this sort do. Keep it looking right by dusting the faux silk with a soft brush now and then, and giving the chrome and the acrylic a wipe with a barely damp cloth once the power is off at the wall and the lamps have gone cold. It carries a one year warranty.
