Description

Wide and shallow, this is a drum shade in dual faux silk, antique gold outside with a ruby lining that warms the light coming through it. The shade measures 60cm across, which gives it presence without much drop, and the fitting sits 42cm below the ceiling. An E27 socket sits behind a frosted acrylic diffuser with an antique brass rim, so you see an even glow rather than the lamp itself. We would fit an LED GLS lamp here, up to 20W.

It suits rooms where a pendant would hang too low: bedrooms under sloping eaves, a landing, a first floor hallway, or a dining table in a flat with standard ceiling height. Because the diffuser closes the underside, the light falls softly rather than glaring, which makes it comfortable to sit beneath. Pair a compatible lamp with a dimmer and it will dim, and that is how we would run it over a table. It is one we point people towards when they want the softness of fabric with a tidier underside than an open shade gives.

The frame is finished in antique brass and the shade is faux silk, gold on the show side with the ruby turned inward. A soft brush, or the upholstery tool on a vacuum, keeps the fabric clean; the diffuser asks for no more than a wipe with a barely damp cloth once the power is off and the fitting has cooled. It carries a one year warranty. The gold and ruby pairing sits well with warm woods and deeper paint colours.
