Baymont 5 Light Flush Ceiling Light 40cm Taupe - Polished Chrome

This is a shade and frame sold together: a 40cm drum of dual faux silk in taupe, lined in halo gold so the light takes on a warm cast as it spreads, with a frosted acrylic diffuser and a polished chrome trim closing the underside. Five E27 sockets sit inside the polished chrome frame. It holds close to the ceiling rather than dropping on a rod or flex, so the shade reads as a broad, quiet disc from below.

We reach for it where headroom is tight and a pendant would sit in the way: hallways and landings, a bedroom, a box room turned study, a small dining room with a low ceiling. The lamps spread across that width to give an even wash instead of one hot point, and the diffuser takes the glare out of anything falling straight down. It will dim, given suitable lamps and a dimmer, which helps in a room used for reading in the evening as well as for getting ready in the morning.

The shade is faux silk over a chrome-finished frame, with acrylic for the diffuser. Freshen the fabric with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head on its lowest setting, and bring the chrome back with a barely damp cloth, dried at once; nothing abrasive near the frosted panel. Each lamp can draw up to 20W, and an LED GLS is what we would fit. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included. What size is the shade?

It measures 40cm across, with an overall height of 200mm and a body height of 180mm, so it keeps close to the ceiling.

How many lamps does it take, and which type?

Five, on E27 sockets. We would use LED GLS A60 lamps, rated at no more than 20W each.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer are supplied.

What is the shade made from?

A dual faux silk, taupe on the outside with a halo gold lining, on a chrome-finished frame. The diffuser beneath is frosted acrylic with a polished chrome trim.

How should I clean it?

Switch the power off and let everything cool. Dust the silk with a soft brush, then wipe the chrome with a barely damp cloth and dry it immediately. Avoid solvents and scouring pads on the acrylic.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry rooms only, so keep it to hallways, bedrooms and living spaces.
