Description

The shade does most of the talking here: a dual faux silk drum, antique gold outside with a ruby lining, 30cm across and set on a polished chrome frame that holds it just below the ceiling. Light through faux silk is soft and even, and the lining warms what falls to the floor. It takes a single E27 lamp, an LED GLS being the sensible choice, to a maximum of 20W.

This is the fitting for rooms where a pendant would be in the way: a hallway, a landing, a bedroom with a lower ceiling, a small dining room where you still want a shade with some colour in it. The gold and ruby read as rich rather than loud, so they sit happily with warm woods, brass hardware and darker paint. We would put it in a snug or over a reading chair rather than in a room that needs broad, bright light, since a fabric shade gives a gentle spread rather than a wide wash.

The frame is metal in a polished chrome finish, bright enough to catch light against the gold above it.
