Description

A dual faux silk drum sits close to the ceiling here, antique gold on the outside with a ruby lining that warms the light as it falls. The shade is 40cm across, so it spreads light through a room rather than pooling it beneath, and the fitting above is finished in antique brass. A single E27 lamp does the work, an LED GLS being the obvious pick, and the light will dim if you match a dimmable lamp with a suitable dimmer.

We reach for this where a hanging pendant would sit too low: hallways, landings, a spare bedroom, a small dining room under a modest ceiling. It gives you the softness of a fabric shade without the drop, which makes it useful in older houses where ceilings are not generous. The lamp is capped at 20W, ample once you are in LED, and the ruby lining means the light reads warm even with a neutral lamp. Keep it to rooms that stay dry.

The frame is metal in an aged brass tone, and the shade is faux silk on both faces, gold outside and ruby within. Dust the fabric with a soft brush now and then, and give the brass a dry cloth; anything wet will mark the silk. It carries a one year warranty.
