When extra large is the right band

There is a point where a mirror stops decorating a wall and starts defining it. These are the pieces past that point. They suit a double-height hallway, a long landing, a wall above a wide sideboard, or a room where the architecture gives you nothing to look at. The band sits above large rather than replacing it: if you are furnishing a normal-height wall above a console, the large range is the more practical starting point and will be easier to hang.

A living room wall opposite a window is the next, where the glass returns daylight rather than absorbing it. Above a wide sideboard or a generous mantel, an extra large piece is the only thing that will look proportionate. In a bedroom, keep it off the wall facing the bed unless you want the reflection at night.
