Description
The Aries is a 136x36cm oval wall mirror with a hand-applied gold leaf frame over an MDF base and bevelled glass. The narrow profile suits hallways, alcoves, dressing areas and any wall where a full-width mirror would overpower the space. The gold leaf finish covers the entire frame edge, wrapping the mirror glass in a continuous warm metallic border.
Designed for vertical mounting in most applications, the Aries can also be hung horizontally where a low, wide mirror is needed above a console table or along a corridor wall. The 4cm frame depth gives the mirror a defined presence without projecting far from the wall, and the 8.6kg weight requires two secure fixings into masonry or timber studs rather than plasterboard alone. The bevelled edge on the glass catches light at angles, creating a subtle halo effect when positioned opposite windows or wall lights.
The gold leaf application over MDF gives the frame a warmer, more textured appearance than electroplated or powder-coated gold finishes. Small tonal variations in the leaf are visible on close inspection, a characteristic of hand-applied metal leaf rather than a defect. The frame pairs with warm brass hardware, cream and taupe walls, and oak or walnut furniture finishes, while also providing accent contrast against cooler greys and whites.

Frequently Asked
Can this mirror be hung horizontally?
Yes. While the 136x36cm proportions suit vertical mounting in most rooms, the Aries can be hung horizontally where a low, wide mirror is needed, such as above a console table or along a corridor.
What wall fixings are needed?
At 8.6kg, the Aries requires two secure fixings into masonry or timber studs. Standard plasterboard fixings are not sufficient without locating the studs behind the plasterboard. Schuller typically provides D-ring hangers or French cleats on the rear of the frame.
Is the gold leaf finish prone to tarnishing?
Gold leaf over MDF does not tarnish in the way uncoated brass does, but the finish can be scratched or marked by impact. Avoid placing the mirror where it may be knocked, and clean only with a dry microfibre cloth on the frame — glass cleaners can be used on the mirror surface but should not touch the gold leaf.
Does the frame show variation in tone?
Yes. Hand-applied gold leaf shows small tonal variations across the frame depending on how the leaf was laid. This is a characteristic of the hand-finishing process, not a quality issue, and gives the frame a warmer, less uniform appearance than machine-applied metallic coatings.
