LED Floor Lamps

All our LED floor lamps have their LED built in, so there is no bulb to buy or change for the LED itself. Many are dimmable, most give a warm white light, and many let you change the colour temperature. Many have two heads, pairing a main light with a reading or second arm. We stock modern and Scandinavian designs, in black, white, brass, nickel and more.

What integrated LED means for a floor lamp

Whether you call it an LED floor lamp or an LED standing lamp, every lamp on this page has its LED built in. You will not need a bulb for the LED itself, because the light comes as part of the lamp. A few designs also take a separate bulb, so check the product page to see which one it needs.

Having the LED built in settles the main question before you buy: the colour of its light, and whether and how it dims, belong to the design you choose. So decide what you want from the light first, then look for the lamp that gives it.

Reading or room light from an LED floor lamp

Start with the job the lamp has to do. For soft light across the room, an LED uplighter floor lamp is the one to look at: it throws its light at the ceiling, which spreads it gently back down. A few of ours are uplighters. Where a sofa stands away from the wall, a few have an arc design that curves out over it, so the light reaches where you sit.

For an LED reading floor lamp, you want light aimed at the page rather than spread around the room. If you would like room light and reading light from the same lamp, look at the two-head designs: many of ours pair a main light with a reading or second arm. A few are reading lamps in their own right, which suits a favourite chair.

Dimming and switching an LED floor lamp

Many of the LED floor lamps we stock are dimmable, so you can turn the light down for a quiet evening. A dimmable LED floor lamp is dimmed by its own control, and the choice is where you would like that control to be. Many have an inline or floor dimmer on the cable, and some have a dimmer built into the lamp. A few have a touch dimmer.

Some are not dimmable, which is fine where you want the same light whenever you switch on. Whichever you choose, plug it into an ordinary switched wall socket, never into a dimmer socket or a plug-in dimmer. If a lamp dims, its own control does the job, and an external dimmer can make an LED lamp flicker or buzz.

Warm or cool white from an LED floor lamp

Colour temperature decides how the light feels, and with the LED built in, it is part of the lamp you choose. Warm white, such as 3000K, gives a soft, cosy light for a living room or bedroom in the evening. Most of the lamps we stock give a warm white light. Cool white, such as 4000K, looks crisper and suits close work, reading or a study. We stock cool white options too.

If you cannot decide, or want the same lamp to suit both moods, many let you change the colour temperature, moving between warmer and cooler white. That settles it for a room you use for different things through the day.

LED floor lamp styles and finishes

Across our range, most of the lamps are modern in style, and we stock Scandinavian designs as well. A few take a more traditional line. For finishes, we stock black, white, brass, nickel and gold, with matt and satin surfaces among them. A few have an antique finish, which sits well with older furniture.

Most are made with metal, and we also stock designs with glass or acrylic. The decision here is about your room: match the metal to the handles, frames or fittings you already have, or choose black or white if you would rather the lamp blended in than stood out.

Where to place an LED floor lamp

Almost all of the LED floor lamps we stock suit a living room, and many suit a bedroom too. In a living room, stand the lamp beside the sofa or in a dark corner, where it fills the gap between the ceiling light and your table lamps. For a reading corner, put it beside or slightly behind your chair, so the light falls over your shoulder and you are not looking into it.

In a bedroom, a dimmable lamp in the corner gives a gentler light than the ceiling light at night. Many suit a study as well. Wherever it goes, keep it close to a socket so the cable does not cross a walkway, stand it on a level floor, and check the height on the product page against your seat.

Rechargeable LED floor lamps

We stock rechargeable LED floor lamps for the places a cable will not reach, such as the middle of a room or a chair by the window. You charge the lamp, then use it away from the socket until it needs charging again, so it comes down to whether you would rather move your light around or leave it plugged in. A few are rated for outdoor use, so check the rating on the product page before you take one outside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I replace the LED?

The LED is part of the lamp: every lamp on this page has it built in, so there is no bulb to buy or change for it, and you should not take a lamp apart to reach it. Where a design also has a separate bulb fitting, which a few do, check the product page for the right bulb.

Will an LED floor lamp work with a dimmer or a switched socket?

An ordinary switched wall socket is the place to plug it in. Please avoid dimmer sockets and plug-in dimmers, as a dimmer outside the lamp can cause flicker or a buzz; if your lamp is dimmable, use its own control to dim it.

Can I dim the light?

Many of the lamps on this page are dimmable, using their own control: many have an inline or floor dimmer on the cable, and some have a dimmer on the lamp itself. A few use a touch dimmer. Some are not dimmable, so check the product page if dimming matters to you.

Should I choose warm white or cool white?

Choose warm white for relaxing in a living room or bedroom, and cool white for reading and close work. If you would like both, many of ours let you change the colour temperature.

Where should I put an LED floor lamp?

In the living room, stand it beside a sofa or armchair, or in a dark corner, for a softer layer of light than the ceiling light gives. For reading, place it beside your chair and a little behind you so the light reaches the page, and in a bedroom, a corner works well for a gentle evening light. Keep it near a socket so the cable stays clear of where people walk.

Why does my LED floor lamp flicker?

Common causes are a dimmer socket or plug-in dimmer, a loose plug or socket, or a faulty adapter. Plug the lamp into an ordinary wall socket rather than a dimmer, push the plug fully in and check that any adapter is firmly connected. If it still flickers, try another socket, and get in touch with us if that does not help.

Can I use a floor lamp away from a socket?

Yes, if you choose a rechargeable design: we stock rechargeable lamps that run on their own charge, which suits a spot a cable cannot reach. If you want one for outside, look for an outdoor rating on the product page, as a few have one.
