Description

Lucid is a floor lamp in opal and antique brass. A slim black stem rising from a low round black base and curving over at the top in a length of polished brass, carrying a small opal glass bell that hangs forward and down. The brass takes over only at the bend and in a short collar partway down the stem, where a sliding joint sets the height. The glass shade is warm white and evenly diffusing with its rim left open, so the light leaves as a soft pool. The black is matt on the stem and the base alike. The head sits well out from the base so the light lands beside the lamp. It measures 140cm tall and 36cm wide, in glass and metal.

It stands beside a chair or at the end of a sofa, where it puts one pool of light exactly where it is needed without lighting the whole space. That is what a floor lamp is for: it takes the reading light off the ceiling and puts it at shoulder height, so the room can be lit softly and still be worked in.

The LED is built in at 5W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms. It carries an F energy label.

Do I need to buy a bulb?

No. The LED is built into the fitting, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to fit.

What happens when the LED fails?

The fitting is replaced rather than relamped. At 5W and normal domestic use that is many years away.

How bright is it at full?

Comparable to a 40W to 60W incandescent bulb at full.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
