A reliable rule: match the lamp finish to the hardware already in the room, door handles, curtain poles and picture frames, rather than to the sofa or rug, which you are more likely to change first.

Light quality, dimming and bulbs

Nearly everything here is ambient lighting, designed to layer light at seated height rather than floodlight a room from above. Warm white output around 3000K is the most common colour temperature in the range, the comfortable end of the scale for evening use.

Many designs use integrated LED, with the diodes built into the fitting, which is how the slimmest columns, arcs and curved forms are possible. Others take standard E27 or G9 bulbs you can swap yourself. Dimming is widely available, including touch dimmer designs operated with a tap, and outputs run from around 15W up to 44W for larger rooms.
