The Fernhaven floor lamp stands 1445mm tall with a 400mm shade span, its brushed aged brass stem rising from white marble. The stone does the useful work of keeping the weight low, and at 7.3kg the whole floor light sits firmly without needing a wide foot that catches your ankles. One E27 LED lamp at 10W gives it plenty of output for a corner or a reading spot.

This is the floor lamp for a room with no convenient ceiling point, or one where the ceiling light alone leaves the seating dim. Stand it beside an armchair, at the end of a sofa or across the corner of a bedroom, and the 400mm span throws a broad enough pool to read by. That width is enough to light a whole chair rather than just the arm of it, which is the difference between a floor light you read under and one you only look at.
