Description

The Vellmere floor lamp stands 1420mm tall with a clear glass globe shade held out on an antique brass arm, so the bulb is visible through the glass and the light spreads in every direction. The base and arm take up 240mm by 340mm on the floor, which is a small footprint for a lamp of this height. One E27 lampholder takes a 10W LED bulb, and because the glass is clear the choice of bulb shows, so a decorative LED with a warm filament look suits it well. At 6.8kg the lamp is properly weighted, and the IP20 rating keeps it to dry indoor rooms.

We would put this floor light beside an armchair, at the end of a sofa, or in a reading corner where the ceiling light does not reach. The globe sits above seated eye level rather than in it, and clear glass gives a brighter, more open light than a fabric shade. Antique brass is a warm darkened metal that suits wood floors, deep paint colours and older rooms, and it works as an accent in a plainer modern space. The narrow base slides in beside furniture where a wide drum shade would not fit.
