Description
The Medbury is a two light floor lamp built on a slim black frame, with a pair of opal glass shades held out on arms that reach over the floor rather than sitting directly above the base. Height adjusts from 1400mm to 1650mm and the reach runs from 740mm to 895mm, on a footprint 260mm wide, so it can be set to clear the arm of a sofa or tuck in behind a chair. Two 3W G9 LED lamps sit in the shades. At 5.3kg it has enough mass to stand steadily once the arms are extended.
A floor light with two heads does two jobs at once, which is why we would use the Medbury beside a sofa or between two armchairs where a single lamp leaves half the corner dark. The opal glass diffuses the light and takes the glare out of it, so the shades can sit near eye level without becoming uncomfortable. It works as an evening reading light and as general ambient light in a room where the ceiling fitting is too bright on its own. Rated IP20, it belongs in dry indoor rooms, and the black frame suits contemporary and industrial leaning interiors.
The frame is metal in a black finish with opal glass shades, a combination that keeps the fitting looking visually light despite its height. Construction is Class 2 and double insulated. Dust the frame with a soft dry cloth and wipe the glass with a barely damp one, drying it before switching back on, and skip solvents and abrasive creams, which will mark the paint. Let the lamps cool before handling them. If you want the same look overhead, the Medbury four light ceiling light uses the same black frame and opal glass, and the two sit together well in an open plan room.

Frequently Asked
What are the shades made of?
Opal glass, held on a metal frame in a black finish. Opal glass is what keeps the light diffused rather than throwing a hard beam from a visible lamp.
How tall is it, and does it adjust?
It stands between 1400mm and 1650mm, and the arms reach from 740mm to 895mm out over the floor. The base is 260mm wide, so it needs very little floor space of its own.
Which bulbs does it take?
Two 3W G9 LED lamps, one per shade. Let them cool before changing them, and take the shade weight in your hand while you work.
Can it be dimmed?
No, this floor lamp is not dimmable. It runs at a fixed level, so pair it with a dimmable fitting elsewhere if you want to change the mood of the room.
How do I clean it?
A soft dry cloth on the black frame and a barely damp cloth on the opal glass, dried straight away. Avoid abrasive creams and solvents, which will dull the painted finish.
Where can I use it?
Dry indoor rooms only, as it is rated IP20. Living rooms, bedrooms, studies and snugs are all fine; bathrooms and covered outdoor spaces are not.
