Description

This Vellmere floor lamp is finished in bright nickel, a cool polished silver tone, with a clear glass globe shade on a slender arm. It stands 1420mm high and occupies just 240mm by 340mm of floor, so it fits into the gap beside a sofa where a wider lamp would not. One E27 lampholder takes a 10W LED bulb, and since the glass is clear the bulb itself is part of the look, so a decorative LED with visible filaments earns its place here. The lamp weighs 6.8kg, which keeps it stable, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Bright nickel suits rooms working in cooler colours, sitting comfortably with grey and white walls, chrome taps and handles, and glass or steel furniture. We would stand this floor light next to a reading chair, behind the arm of a sofa, or in the corner of a bedroom that needs light away from the ceiling. Clear glass throws light in all directions rather than only up and down, so it lifts a whole corner rather than putting a spot on the floor. The globe sits above seated eye level, which keeps it comfortable to read by.

The stem, base and holder are metal with a bright nickel finish, polished enough to reflect the room around it, and the shade is clear glass. Keep it dusted with a dry soft cloth, since polished metal shows every fingerprint, and wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth before drying it at once.
