Description
The Calverdale cut floor lamp stands 1502mm tall on a base 470mm across, with three cut glass shades in a faceted pattern held on a bright nickel frame. The glass is cut so the light throws small points across the walls and ceiling as well as down into the room. Three E14 LED lamps at 6W each keep the running cost low for a floor light of this height, and at 9.4kg it stands steady on carpet or boards.
A floor lamp earns its keep in the corner of a living room, behind a reading chair or beside a sofa, anywhere you would rather not run a cable up to the ceiling. Three lamps at this height give a soft wash rather than one narrow reading beam, so it works best as a second or third light in the room, alongside a pendant or a pair of table lamps. It is not dimmable, so put it on a switched socket if you want to control it from the wall. We find a floor lamp like this fills the gap a ceiling fitting leaves in a corner.
The stem, base and gallery are metal in a bright nickel finish, cooler and more reflective than brass, which suits grey and blue rooms and stainless kitchen fittings. The glass lifts off for cleaning; wash it in warm water, dry it fully and refit it, and keep to a dry soft cloth on the nickel so the plating stays bright. Tuck the flex behind furniture and out of walkways. The Calverdale range also runs to a linear pendant, and the same floor lamp comes in antique brass if a room leans warm.

Frequently Asked
What is the Calverdale floor lamp made from?
A metal stem and base in a bright nickel finish, with three faceted cut glass shades.
How tall is it and how much floor does it take?
It stands 1502mm high with a 470mm spread, so allow a corner or a clear space beside a chair or sofa.
Is it dimmable?
No, this one is not dimmable. Wiring it into a switched socket is the easiest way to control it from across the room.
What bulbs does it take?
Three E14 lamps at up to 6W each. LED keeps the heat and the running cost down inside the cut glass.
How do I clean the cut glass?
Lift each shade off, wash in warm water, dry fully and refit. Use only a dry soft cloth on the nickel plating.
Is it stable with children or pets about?
At 9.4kg it is weighty for its size and sits firmly, though like any floor light it is best placed out of busy walkways with the flex tucked away.
