Description

The Farnleigh floor lamp lifts three ribbed and frosted glass shades to 1500mm on a satin brass frame, spreading them across a 340mm circle so the light reaches out rather than dropping straight down. It weighs 3.3kg, enough to stand steadily on carpet or a hard floor. Three G9 lamps at 3W each in LED sit behind glass that is ribbed outside and frosted, so at standing height you see a soft glow instead of exposed lamps. As a floor light it gives you a full height layer of light in a corner without the footprint of a side table and lamp.

This is the fitting for the corner that never quite works. Set it behind an armchair or at the end of a sofa and the three shades throw light across the seat and up the wall; put it beside a bookcase and it lights the spines rather than the floor. At 1500mm it sits just above seated eye level, which is why the frosted glass matters, and the narrow 340mm spread means it slots into a gap most floor lamps cannot. In a bedroom it works in place of a ceiling light for evenings, and in a study it fills in behind a desk.

The stem, base and arms are metal in a satin brass finish, and the shades are ribbed, frosted glass. Clean the glass with a soft damp cloth and dry it immediately so it does not water mark, then use a dry cloth on the brass; solvent cleaners, metal polish and abrasive pads will damage both. Run the cable along the skirting rather than across a walkway, and let the G9 capsules cool before changing them.
