Description
The Calverdale cut floor lamp rises 1510mm on a base 470mm across, holding three faceted cut glass shades on an antique brass frame. Light passing through the cut glass scatters into small bright points on the surrounding walls, which is the whole reason for the pattern. Three E14 LED lamps at 6W each do the work, so the running cost stays low, and the 9.4kg body keeps the floor light planted on carpet or bare boards.
This is a corner and armchair light. Stand it behind a reading chair, at the end of a sofa or in the dead corner of a living room where there is no ceiling point, and it fills the space with a soft wash instead of one narrow beam. Three shades at low level are kinder on the eyes than a single bright uplighter, and because it plugs in you can move it when the furniture moves. It is not dimmable, so a switched socket is the simplest way to control it without walking across the room. We keep coming back to antique brass for rooms with a lot of wood in them.
Stem, base and gallery are metal in an antique brass finish, aged and warm, which sits well with oak, walnut, deep green paint and terracotta. The shades lift off so you can wash them in warm water and dry them fully before refitting, and the brass needs nothing more than a dry soft cloth. Keep the flex behind furniture and clear of walkways. A bright nickel version of the same floor lamp is available, and the cut glass carries through the Calverdale linear pendant.

Frequently Asked
What is the Calverdale floor lamp made from?
A metal stem and base finished in antique brass, with three faceted cut glass shades.
What are its dimensions?
It stands 1510mm tall with a 470mm spread and weighs 9.4kg, so it needs a clear corner or a space beside a chair.
Can I dim it?
No, it is not dimmable. Plugging it into a switched socket gives you wall control instead.
Which bulbs does it take?
Three E14 lamps at up to 6W each. LED lamps keep the heat down inside the cut glass shades.
How do I clean the shades and the brass?
Remove each shade, wash in warm water and dry fully. Use only a dry soft cloth on the antique brass, never polish or spray cleaner.
Is it only for living rooms?
It suits bedrooms, home offices and wide landings too, as long as the room is dry: the IP20 rating rules out bathrooms.
