Matching wattage equivalents when you swap from halogen
GU10 LED bulbs draw far less power than the halogen spots they replace while putting out a comparable amount of light. Across our range you will find bulbs rated around 35W-equivalent and 50W-equivalent, which is the figure that tells you how bright the LED will feel next to the older bulb it stands in for. The actual LED wattage is much lower, often in the low single figures, so a like-for-like brightness swap means looking at the equivalence and the lumen output rather than the raw wattage on the box.
Lumens are the more direct measure of brightness. Our GU10 bulbs cover outputs from under 300 lumens up to the 300 to 700 lumen band, with 345 lumens and 450 lumens being common figures. If you are replacing several spots in one ceiling, keep the lumen output consistent across them so the run looks even.
Choosing colour temperature by room
Colour temperature is measured in kelvin and sets the mood of the light. We stock warm white at 2700K and 3000K for a softer, cosier tone that suits living rooms, bedrooms and dining areas. Cool white at 4000K gives a cleaner, more neutral light that works well in kitchens and studies. Daylight at 6500K is the crispest option and is often chosen for bathrooms and task areas. Mixing colour temperatures within a single room or run tends to look uneven, so it helps to settle on one figure before you buy.
If you want flexibility, our range also includes colour-changing and variable-white GU10 bulbs that let you adjust the tone and shade without changing the bulb itself.
Beam, shape and dimming
GU10 bulbs are a spotlight shape, throwing a directional beam rather than light in all directions, which is what makes them suited to recessed downlights and adjustable spots. Where you need to dim, choose a bulb marked as dimmable and pair it with a compatible LED dimmer; non-dimmable bulbs can flicker or buzz on a dimmer circuit. We list both dimmable and non-dimmable bulbs, along with single units and multi-packs for fitting out a whole ceiling.
Fitting them
GU10 is a twist-and-lock cap, so the bulb pushes in and turns a quarter to seat. Always switch off at the wall before changing a bulb. For anything involving fixed wiring or the fitting itself, use a qualified electrician.
